Celtic and Brendan Rodgers

It seems a good fit in terms of the passing and pressing style of Brendan rodgers old teams used to play. Obviously the league needs to be more competetitve so it will at least give Rodgers time to get some success north of the border. I saw an article in one of the papers which stated that Rodgers wiould not be made to force a new way of thinking on celtic as he had to with Liverpool. They needed complete rebuilding at the time. With Aberdeen competing and Rangers back in the top division after a four year absense its going to be intresting times in the scottish premeir

Leicester City – Champions – the art of resource management.

Now in starting this football blog I am starting it just as the season ends. We now have new champions in England for the first time since Blackburn(90s) and Nottingham Forest(70s). I can see some similarities with Nottingham Forest, in that as a group of individuals they were not rich in value, but as a collective team they went on to achieve many successes. Now what has been the striking thing about Leicester City’s season has been the lack of players used, lack of injuries and basically everything about them. Whats I find interesting is how a team of limited resources could achieve so much. So when I say resource management there is now going to be a lot of teams that will probably not buy big and try and create a collective approach. I also think in the real business world you will see many business used what Leicester have done and apply it to business models. But in terms of next seasons football season its going to be probably one of the most fascinating seasons for some time. You are potentially going to have new management in place at Man City and Man Utd, then obviously Leicester and tottenham and Arsenal and maybe a few other surprises along the way, also Chelsea will come back stronger. But you will also have teams that work harder to upset the more richer clubs. Its going to be a fascinating transfer market and into the next season.

Van Gaal- The expectation levels expected

Looking online today and I am a bit bemused by comments by Lois Van Gaal. On the whole you could say he has improved Man Utd as they seem more tactically aware and are achieving some good results and some level of consistency. But never has their been a better time for Manchester United to recruit a top class manager for the long term. Van Gaal has stated that he is going to try and see through the next year. The problem is with that is that if they fail to qualify for the champions league then , then it would be 4 seasons with only 2-3 Europa campaigns to show for it. Mourinho – I am surprised he has not been recruited by any of the other big clubs like Paris St Germain, so I think Manchester United need to act in the short term and pay up the remaining year. With Mourinho you get a manager that always gains the respect of the squad and makes a team ethic, he doesn’t suffer fools gladly and he showed in his first year in his second term at Chelsea that he could be tactically astute. I think that’s what Manchester United need, one the whole they still have a good home form. I think where they come unstuck is the away game strategy. Also I can see some of the bigger names not liking his style, but no player is bigger than this club. Now for all fans of football when Manchester United were in the Ferguson years they played some classy football and set some high standards. I think most Manchester United fans need to feel that the team has a spirit. But at the moment its lacking at those vital moments of the season. The comments from Van Gaal seem very strange. So my take on this comment is that he is saying ' Well we are fifth, what did you expect?'. The problem with Manchester United is as much about the team and the business. The share price will ultimately be affected by the lack of revenue Champions league football creates. I think the comment is extremely daft. Its a bit like being given millions and then missing out on something to then blame the level of the players he has brought. Its going to be an interesting summer in the story of Manchester United's next season and beyond.
